Sarah Huckabee Sanders Criticizes Jill Biden in RNC Speech

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) took a swipe at First Lady Jill Biden during her address at this week’s Republican National Convention. Sanders, who served as former President Trump’s press secretary, referenced a personal anecdote involving her son and drew a comparison to the first lady’s experiences with President Biden.

Personal Anecdote and Political Jabs

Sanders recounted taking her four-year-old son to the White House for “Bring Your Kid to Work Day” while she was the White House press secretary. “When I was President Trump’s White House press secretary, I got the chance to take my 4-year-old son up to ‘Bring Your Kid to Work Day,’” Sanders shared from the main stage in Milwaukee. She then took a jab at President Biden, referencing concerns about his age and fitness. “Much like Jill now drags Joe to ‘Bring Your Husband to Work Day,’” Sanders added, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Criticism of Jill Biden

Jill Biden, typically not a frequent target of GOP attacks, has faced criticism from some conservatives who claim she is intent on retaining power amidst debates over President Biden’s ability to continue leading the Democratic ticket. Sanders’s comments played into these criticisms, suggesting that the first lady plays a significant role in managing the president.

Despite the controversial jab, Sanders’s speech received praise for its uplifting and personal tone. Democratic strategist Van Jones even described it as “the speech of the night.” This praise from both sides of the political aisle highlights Sanders’s ability to connect with her audience on a personal level.
