Rajon Rondo, a former point guard for the Celtics, found himself in legal trouble over the weekend in Indiana, facing multiple charges related to firearm and marijuana possession.
Rajon Rondo Arrest Details
Rondo, who spent nine seasons of his 16-year NBA career in Boston, was apprehended on Sunday afternoon in Jackson County, Indiana, following a traffic stop on Interstate 65 conducted by Indiana State Police. Rajon Rondo Charges
Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a firearm, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in Rondo’s possession. Notably, Rondo is prohibited from owning a firearm due to an existing protection order against him. All charges against the 37-year-old are categorized as misdemeanors.
Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest, Rondo was taken into custody at Jackson County Jail. He was later released after posting bail. He is expected to face proceedings in Jackson County Superior Court, although a specific date has not been scheduled yet.
Past Incidents
This is not Rondo’s first brush with the law. In 2022, a woman from Louisville sought an emergency protective order against Rondo, alleging threats to her life. The order was rescinded a year later following Rondo’s completion of anger management courses, counseling sessions, and a mental health evaluation.
In a separate incident last March, the same woman filed another emergency protective order against Rondo, which resulted in an agreed order after five months. Notably, a child present in Rondo’s vehicle during the recent arrest was released into the custody of a family member.
Career Highlights
Despite his legal troubles, Rondo boasts an impressive basketball career. He contributed significantly to the Celtics’ NBA championship victory in 2008 and secured a second ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. As a four-time All-Star, all during his tenure with Boston, Rondo also played for various other NBA teams, including the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. His most recent NBA appearance was during the 2021-22 season with Cleveland.
